Marnel Junior School

Burns

Welcome to Burns House

My name is Miss Collins and I have the privilege of teaching another cohort of year 6 children. I have to say, I’ve been very impressed with my class so far and am excited about our year together! We have been working hard already and have been doing a lot of reading and writing around our year 6 reader, which is ‘Refugee Boy’. We are discovering more about the story daily and our project ‘Is the World Everybody’s Oyster?’ has been formed around this. Soon we shall we heading off to Osmington Bay for our Residential and shall be learning more about each other there and having lots of fun! It has been explained to the children that this year they shall be receiving weekly homework to help with their learning and it would be great if the children completed this with an adult, in case they encounter any difficulties. The homework will build on what we’ve been learning in class and so it’s really important for the children to complete this, to develop and extend upon their understanding. Furthermore, the Children have been given a reading diary as they should be reading for ten minutes a night, this will help with their spelling, writing, use of punctuation, imagination, along with their reading skills, which will make them more confident for the year ahead. We will still continue to have two P.E lessons a week in the Autumn term. However, from January we shall only have one session per week, as we shall be busy preparing for the upcoming SATs in May.

***For the safety of all children at Marnel, we would ask parents/carers not to stop/park on the yellow zig-zag lines outside of school. ***Thank you to all of the families who donated to our #helloyellow mufti day. We raised £345.58.***Year 7 open mornings/evenings for local schools can be found under our Transition page..***All of our upcoming events can be found in our Calendar and Latest News section.***
