Marnel Junior School

The School Choir

Our school choir meet once a week, at lunchtime, when they learn and practise songs. Not only do they perform at school events, they are regularly invited to take part in concerts within the community. This year they have sung at old people's homes in Popley, performed at St Bede's Church and have been asked to take part in The Mayor's Concert at The Anvil.

In June, the choir will be representing Marnel Junior School at the Basingstoke Primary Schools Concert.

If you are interested in joining the school choir, please talk to Mrs Fomes or Mrs Ford.

Christmas Carol Service at St Bede’s
On 18th of December, the whole school went to St Bede’s for our annual carol service. It was a happy occasion which gave us time to share the Christmas story and sing our favourite carols, some traditional ones and some newer ones.
Our school Choir sang two songs so beautifully that it reduced some of our staff to tears. We were also lucky enough to have our signing choir joined with us for our whole school rendition of silent night. All the children performed well and were a credit to our school and their families.
Revd Arthur joined us and added to our service with his own Christmas wishes and prayers. Mrs Wilkins gave an amusing talk about the real meaning of Christmas. The children were asked to think about how many different words they could make from the word Christmas. Each word eventually helped the children to think about the real meaning behind Christmas.
All in all it was a happy occasion that put the whole school and parents in the mood for Christmas holidays.

Carol Singing
The school choir, along with Mrs Ford and Mrs Fomes, took art in Carol singing at Marnel Lodge and Magnolia Court, this year. They sang a selection of traditional and more modern Christmas carols finishing with the traditional carol singing song “We wish you a Merry Christmas”.
After the singing, the children spoke to the residents and had a drink and biscuit for their efforts. The children’s singing and time spent with residents really helped the elderly members of the Marnel Community to be part of the Christmas spirit at school and made a real difference.
